Biography

Mohammad Hamdaqa, Eng., Ph.D. is an Associate Professor at Polytechnique Montréal, where he leads the Software and Emerging Technologies (SæT) Lab in the Department of Computer and Software Engineering. He is also an IVADO Researcher and co-founder of the Center of Financial Technology at Reykjavik University.

His research operates at the intersection of model abstraction, automation, and intelligent analysis to build secure, sustainable, and high-quality software systems. His work combines machine learning with static and dynamic analysis techniques to automate complex development tasks, improve software reliability, and lower barriers for non-expert users. Driven by a vision of intention-driven development, Dr. Hamdaqa also conducts empirical studies on developer experience to help ensure that next-generation software systems align with developer intent while meeting rigorous standards for security, performance, safety, and sustainability.

His recent projects investigate the security and reliability of AI-generated code, smart contract auditing and audit standardization, LLM-driven software modeling and testing, sustainability issues in software systems, and testing techniques for autonomous systems. This work has received Best Paper recognition at EASE 2026 and ICST 2026.

Dr. Hamdaqa is actively involved in major research networks, including the Multidisciplinary Institute for Cybersecurity and Cyber Resilience (IMC2) and the Software Engineering for Machine Learning Applications (SEMLA) group. He is a member of the SANER Steering Committee, served as General Co-Chair of SANER 2025, and regularly contributes to the program committees of flagship software engineering venues including ICSE, ESEC/FSE, ASE, MSR, MODELS, ICSME, and ISSTA. He is a member of the IEEE Computer Society and the ACM.
